Driving in Turkey
Turkey has a good network of highways, and many excellent secondary roads. Signposts for road – works tend not to be up European standards, otherwise Turkey is an easy country to drive in. The pump hands happily fill up your fuel depot and wash your car all in five minutes.

Drive-ins along the highways offer good facilities, and excellent restaurants.

Villagers are happy to give you directions, and even take you to your destination. Turkish schools all have English language on the curriculum from the age of 9, so a bag of sweets is a good idea to accompany a band of ‘Where do you live/what is your name?’ enquiries.

There is a speed limit on all Turkish road, and road checks to ensure that car papers and driving licenses are up to date. The coastal areas all have ‘tourism police’ who are there to help you with any queries you may have. Apart from within the large cities, it is unusual to have any traffic congestion, you are more likely to be slowed down by a herd of goats.

Sticking to main and secondary roads it is a delight to drive in eastern and central Turkey; traffic tends to be slower and all are appreciative of the presence of a ‘tourist’ visiting them. You will be offered endless glasses of tea and should add a small dictionary to your store of sweets.

Our driving instructions provide you with everything you need to know and we are always at a phone-call’s distance if you have any queries.

For those who desire off road experiences there are many unsealed, little explored routes running allm through the country - especially in the mountain areas. Please contact us for more details.
